Speaking Ministry

Hurdling Handicaps Speaking Ministries is a Christ-centered speaking ministry founded by motivational speaker Larry Patton. His purpose was to show people how God works in extraordinary and powerful ways to help us hurdle life’s handicaps, those physical, emotional, and spiritual. Hurdling Handicaps challenges, encourages, and gives individuals the opportunity to accept that with Jesus Christ working in their lives, they can hurdle any handicap.

By the grace and power of Jesus Christ, Larry’s encouraging words of faith, sense of humor, and unsinkable spirit have motivated and inspired groups of all ages and denominations. In 1985, Larry felt God leading him into a speaking ministry to share his story. The ministry has taken Larry across the United States sharing and encouraging others to hurdle life’s handicaps.

Living Treasures

Living Treasures is an awareness and educational program developed by Larry Patton to assist churches by equipping them with the tools and creative techniques for reaching out and ministering to individuals with disabilities and their family members.

Jesus calls us to minister by addressing the needs of people with disabilities within our churches and our communities. The program includes information and training on how to reach out to individuals with disabilities in the community with the Good News of Jesus Christ. Congregations need to understand how to change traditional methods and practices in order to accommodate the person with a disability.

Many people with disabilities live within the shadow of the church. The church needs to invite them in and share the love of Christ with them. To do this takes a willingness, dedication, and ready availability on our part. The Church, because it is the body of a loving, caring Christ, should be the leader in seeking to integrate persons with disabilities into the community and the church. This provides an opportunity to display God’s magnificent and unconditional love before the watching eyes of the world.

Topics include:
·Addressing attitudinal barriers in with a local congregation
·Determining who is qualified to be involved in this ministry
·Developing an environment of acceptance & unconditional love within the congregation
·Producing image bearers for the Lord
·Addressing structural barriers in the church
·Integrating individuals with disabilities into the church
·Developing and implementing an accessibility plan for the church
·Finding and locating the needed resources

As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. … said Jesus, “but this
happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.” -John 9:1,3b
